The Ricans Food first opened as a popup restaurant in June 2016 at the popular Smorgasburg food market in DTLA.  Founder and Chef, Jose Miura has been serving high quality street food interpretations of classic dishes from the island of Puerto Rico and daring into new adventures creating private dinners, and three course menu dinner experiences for those seeking a more formal ambience.

The Ricans Food has been a staple point for local celebrities seeking the authentic taste of the island, and is currently rated #1 Puerto Rican food in Los Angeles on Yelp.  Featured on KTLA morning news, Friends and Family, Voyage LA and several other magazines, The Ricans Food stands as its best in the City of Angels. 

The brand is distinct by a mortar and pestle logo which represents the cooking tool among all Puerto Rican’s kitchens. The colors black and white gives a distinguished modern vibe, that gives it a clean cut urban style restaurant, very representative of Chef Miura’s style.

Our Mofongo is vegan friendly

Green plantain as the main ingredient.  Skin is peeled off, cut, then fried to perfection. Transferred into a mortar to get mashed  with a secret blend of garlic, oil and spices until soft.  It is molded and served hot with our special vegetable based vegan salsa criolla and more secret garlic mojo.  Select your choice of proteins such as pork “carne frita”, guava chicken, sweet plantain aioli steak or our signature vegan protein “jackfruit guisado”.
